Welcome to my new travel blog! In this first post I look back with nostalgia on my first solo trip in Greece. All I wanted was some sun and warmth. Little did I know that I would fall in love with travelling.

The endless summer of 2014 was amazing, but I spent most time at the office. It was the first year at my current job. Being new I wanted to show my boss that I was dependable, so I decided to work all summer. Predictably, my over-ambitious plan backfired. I felt even more tired when I watched my colleagues come back energised from their vacations. To put myself over the line I booked a flight and hotel package trip to Crete.
That september week will always be special to me as it was my first solo trip abroad.
Although I travelled to relax and soak up the sun, the day tours made the lasting impression. Most likely I discovered my wanderlust when I was standing at the Gramvousa fortress looking out over the ocean, I just didn’t know it back then.
Waking up to a magical sunrise, watching an even more beautiful sunset…
…adoring flowers in the hotel garden, getting water melon and grapes as dessert on the house…
…swimming in Balos Bay…
…and walking around on Elafonissi beach were some other memorable moments.
We all start somewhere. A sunny week in Crete was my perfect introduction to solo travelling. Fast forward a few years and I have just realised that every place you want to go is just a dream away.
